This recipe was handed down to me from my late grandmother Helen. I've had it for DECADES until I finally made my first batch a couple of years ago. Last November I had a gathering at my place and my aunt and uncle were having some of it in their coffee...it was quite popular that day. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • SIMPLE SYRUP

  • 4 c
    granulated white sugar
  • 4 c
    water
  • THE REST OF THE STORY

  • 2 oz
    instant coffee powder
  • 1 bottle
    vodka (one 5th bottle of vodka)
  • 2
    vanilla bean cut length wise

How to Make Eccentric Haus Frau's Helen-On-Wheels Kahlua

Step-by-Step

  1. Stir sugar and water in a medium saucepan on high heat and boil for 5 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and add 2 ounces instant coffee and stir until blended.
  3. Cool until lukewarm, then add 1 5th Vodka and 2 vanilla beans split lengthwise.
  4. Pour into a 1 gallon container and store for 2 weeks and then either drink and/or pour into smaller bottles for gifts or easier storage.
