Bramble is an English creation, first introduced in London in the 1980s by creative mixologist Dick Bradsell (known for his many other innovative cocktail creations) who was working at Fred's Club in downtown Soho. The cocktail is poured over crushed ice and creates a 'trickling down' effect that's similar to the popular Gin Fizz. The Bramble is great in the springtime, when berries are at their freshest. If you can't find crème de mûre, you can use crème de cassis (black current liqueur) in a pinch, though there'll be a slight flavor difference.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 ounce lemon juice, fresh squeezed
  • 6 large blackberries
  • 1 ounce creme de mûre (blackberry liqueur)
  • 1 1/2 ounces dry gin (such as plymouth)
  • 1 scoop crushed ice (about 2/3 cup or so)
  • 1 slice lemon (for garnish - optional)
  • 2 large blackberries (for garnish - optional)

How To Make bramble

  • Step 1
    In a cocktail shaker, muddle 6 blackberries in the lemon juice. Add the crème de mûre and gin, and shake well.
  • Step 2
    Place crushed ice in a rocks glass, and pour the drink over the crushed ice.
  • Step 3
    Garnish with a slice of lime and 2 fresh blackberries, and serve.
