This is popular in the Alps region of Switzerland, Germany and Austria where the chilly mountain climate and long skiing season make hot drinks such a necessity. A few sips of this will keep you warm on those snowy, chilly mornings.

Ingredients
- 8 ounces fresh brewed hot coffee (strong)
- - sugar and cream, to taste
- 1 1/2 ounces frangelico or other hazelnut liqueur
- 1 1/2 ounces kirsch (cherry brandy)
- 2 tablespoons whippped cream
- - a dusting of fresh grated nutmet, for garnish
- - dark chocolate shavings, for garnish
How To Make alpine coffee

Step 1Pour coffee into a large coffee mug.

Step 2Add cream and sugar to taste (optional).

Step 3Stir in the Frangelico and kirsch.

Step 4Top with whipped cream, and grate nutmeg (about 3 to 4 "scratches") on top of the whipped cream. Garnish with a few chocolate shavings, and serve immediately while coffee is still hot.
