For the cake:

250ml | 1 cup boiling water

125g | 4.5 oz soft unsalted butter, plus some for greasing

150g | 5 oz caster sugar

225g | 8 oz plain flour
•
1⁄2 teaspoon baking powder

1⁄2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
•
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 eggs
•
2 x 20cm | 8” sandwich tins or shallow cake tins

For the frosting:
•
125ml | 1/2 cup water
•
30g | 1 oz soft light brown sugar
•
175g | 6 oz unsalted butter cubed
•
300g 10.5 oz best-quality semi-sweet chocolate finely chopped
