This recipe was my Aunts and she didn't have a name for it. After fixing it for a family get together, my husband and his brother were fighting over a piece and thats how it got its name...

Ingredients

  • 1 box yellow cake mix (prefer pilsbury classic)
  • 1 bunch strawberries (can use fresh or frozen thawed)
  • 1 package strawberry gel (bag or tub)
  • 1 box instant vanilla pudding (small box)
  • 1 - cool whip (8oz)
  • tt - sugar

How To Make "theft by deception"

  • Step 1
In a large bowl, crush strawberries then stir in gel. Add sugar to mixture to taste. I add about 1/4cup usually, but you don't want it to sweet. Set aside.
  • Step 2
Bake cake as directed on box.
  • Step 3
While cake is baking, make pudding as directed. Fold into cool whip. Cover and place in fridge
  • Step 4
When cake is done and still very hot, poke holes in the top with the handle of wooden spoon. Pour strawberry mixture onto top of cake, spread evenly. Let cool completely.
  • Step 5
Spread cool whip/pudding mixture evenly over cake. Garnish if desired. Chill till ready to serve.
