summer's dirt cake

Recipe by

I made a master copy of a recipe book for a Head Start fundraiser, this was one of the recipes submitted by a parent. I've seen it with chocolate pudding also, so it really looks like dirt! Either way, oh YUM! (And I don't like the gummy worms, but that is just my preference.)

method No-Cook or Other

Ingredients For summer's dirt cake

  • 8 oz
    cream cheese, softened
  • 1 stick
    butter, softened
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1 c
    powdered sugar
  • 8 oz
    vanilla pudding (instant kind)
  • 12 oz
    cool whip, softened
  • 2 c
oreos, crushed (plus extra for topping)
  • 2 c
    milk

How To Make summer's dirt cake

  • 1
Sprinkle oreos in the bottom of a 9x13 pan and set them aside. In a large bowl, mix the cream cheese, butter, and cool whip until smooth. Then stir in sugar, vanilla, pudding and milk. Mix until smooth, but do it quickly or the pudding will set. Pour on top of the cookies then sprinkle additional crushed oreos on top. Chill for 1 hour.

Notes: If you make this for a children's party you can add gummy worms on top.

Note: I have seen this recipe made in mini 'flower pots' with a spoon shovel, oh so cute!
