my bread pudding

Mama used to use bread that was just shy of stale but not fresh enough for toast or sandwiches by making this pudding. She'd use lots of raisins and cinnamon and there were usually NO leftovers!

Ingredients

  • 7 or 8 slices day-old bread, white or wheat
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2/3 stick oleo (i use parkay, but butter's good, too)
  • 3 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup raisins

How To Make my bread pudding

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 deg. Slice bread into cubes. Set aside.
  • Step 2
In a deep mixing bowl, beat eggs, sugar, salt, cinnamon and vanilla till smooth. Then beating at low speed, add milk slowly and continue to stir till combined.
  • Step 3
Melt butter or oleo in a 9 x 13 baking dish or pan. Set this pan in a larger pan with enough water to come halfway up the baking dish.
  • Step 4
Combine bread with all the other ingredients, stirring just to combine. Add 1/2 c. or more raisins, if desired, and pour all into melted butter. Bake for 50 minutes. Serve warm.
