Recipe my mother made while raising 6 hungry children. I continue to make it and enjoy every bite.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 - loaf of french bread
  • 4 - eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk may be 2%
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon, ground
  • VANILLA PUDDING
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 2 - eggs well beaten
  • 2 cups scalded milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

How To Make mom's bread pudding

  • Step 1
    Pour melted butter in bottom of 8 x 11 glass baking dish. Combine beaten eggs and all other ingredients with cubed bread and pour over butter. Bake at 325 for 30 min. Serve with vanilla pudding. Serve warm
  • Step 2
    Pudding: Mix sugar, flour & eggs. Pour into scalded milk. Cook & stir constantly till thick (pudding consistancy) Add vanilla.
  • Step 3
    To prevent pudding from getting a scum on top cover with wax paper immediately till served.
