1/3 c
all-purpose flour
2/3 c
brown sugar, packed
2 c
egg yolks, beaten
2 Tbsp
butter or margarine
1 tsp
vanilla extract
1 c
heavy cream, whipped
4 to 6
firm bananas, sliced

How to Make Layered Banana Pudding


  • 1In a medium saucepan, combine the flour and brown sugar.
  • 2Stir in milk.
  • 3Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly.
  • 4Cook and stir for 1 minute more.
  • 5Remove from the heat.
  • 6Gradually stir about 1 cup hot mixture into egg yolks.
  • 7Return all to the saucepan.
  • 8Bring to a gentle boil.
  • 9Cook and stir for 2 minutes.
  • 10Remove from the heat.
  • 11Stir in butter and vanilla.
  • 12Cool to room temperature while stirring occasionally.
  • 13Fold in the whipped cream.
  • 14Layer 1/3 of the pudding in a 2-quart glass bowl.
  • 15Top with half of the bananas.
  • 16Repeat layers.
  • 17Top with remaining pudding.
  • 18Cover and chill for at least 1 hour before serving.
