good ol’ nanner puddin’
(2 RATINGS)
It’s a Southern thing to shorten words to a delightful original speak that makes everything sound more endearing. “Nanner Puddin” is one of those common delicacies that just sounds more authentically southern than “Banana Pudding" ever could, even though it’s the same thing.Source unknown

- - 1/3 cup cornstarch
- - 1/2 tsp. salt
- - 1 cup sugar
- - 4 cups evaporated milk, divided
- - 4 tbsp. butter
- - 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- - 36 vanilla wafers
- - 5 bananas, sliced
- - 1 container frozen whipped topping, thawed, 16 oz
How To Make good ol’ nanner puddin’
-
Step 1In small bowl, mix cornstarch, salt, sugar and 1 cup of the milk. Bring remaining 3 cups milk to boil in large pan and add sugar mixture. Stir constantly over medium heat as custard thickens.
-
Step 2Reduce heat and add butter and vanilla. When pudding is thick, remove from heat and allow to cool. In large bowl, layer the vanilla wafers, bananas, and pudding, repeating layers in that order til all pudding is used.
-
Step 3Top with whipped topping, cover and chill pudding before serving. An interesting twist is to use chocolate chips cookies instead of vanilla wafers for “chocolate chip” banana pudding. Serves 6 to 8
