cherry french bread pudding

This is especially for my sister, with love. She'll understand. I lost our only copy of this receipe years ago and finally found it.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 - eggs
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 cups day old french bread, cut into 3/4 in cubes
  • 2 cans queen anne cherries (drained)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • - cinnamon, mixed with sugar
  • - whipped cream, sweetened (optional)

How To Make cherry french bread pudding

  • Step 1
    Heat the milk and butter until hot but do not boil. Set aside.
  • Step 2
    Beat eggs, sugar, cornstarch, vanilla and salt together.
  • Step 3
    Gradually add the milk to the egg mixture.
  • Step 4
    Pour over the bread and let stand 30 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Spread cherries over the bottom of a 9" buttered square pan.
  • Step 6
    Pour the bread mixture over the cherries.
  • Step 7
    Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Step 8
    Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes or until tester in center comes out clean.
  • Step 9
    Cool slightly and serve with whipped cream, if desired.
