This was passed down from my husband's family for generation's,back to his great, great grandmother. His mother give me the recipe before she passed away. She would make it every Thanksgiving and Christmas.I have never seen or heard of it any where else. If you have seen it before please let me know.I am now a great grandmother and fix it for my family on the holidays. It is very rich.I hope you will try this and make this a family tradition of your own

method Bake
yield 8-10 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • - make your favorite biscuit dough
  • 1 pound butter, cold (not margarine)
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons real vanilla flavoring
  • dash - salt

How To Make butter roll

  • Step 1
Make your biscuit dough, then roll out 6" rounds, like a fried pie, you want it thin, you will need 6 or 8. Fill each one with 3 pads of butter then fold in half and crimp edges with a fork.Just like you would make fried pies.
  • Step 2
Heat your milk, sugar, salt, rest of butter, and vanilla flavoring in a oven proof dish ( I use corning ware)do not let it boil, you just want it hot.
  • Step 3
Drop your butter pies in the hot milk mixture.
  • Step 4
Put in a 350 degree preheated oven for 45 to 60 minutes, until the top is golden brown.
  • Step 5
I make mine in the morning, then warm it in a 250 degree oven to warm up while we eat dinner.lol I love it cold too.
