Ingredients

  • 3 - eggs
  • 1.25 cups sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons nutmeg
  • 1.5 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 2.25 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 5 cups french bread, stale, cubed
  • 1 - apple, chopped
  • 2 - eggs
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup bourbon whiskey

How To Make bread pudding with bourbon sauce

  • Step 1
    With an electric mixer, beat eggs until frothy (about 3 minutes).
  • Step 2
    Add sugar, nutmeg, vanilla and cinnamon, and beat until well blended.
  • Step 3
    In a saucepan, heat the butter and milk until the butter melts (but do not allow it to boil).
  • Step 4
    In a large bowl, mix together raisins, pecans and bread cubes.
  • Step 5
    Combine the milk and egg mixtures, pour this over the bread and allow it to soak for 45 minutes.

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Step 7
    Lightly grease individual ramekins or a large loaf pan.
  • Step 8
    Add the apple to the bread pudding, and spoon mixture into the baking container.
  • Step 9
    Place in oven and immediately reduce heat to 300 and bake for 40 minutes.
  • Step 10
    Increase heat to 425 and bake for another 15 minutes until nicely browned.
  • Step 11
    To make bourbon sauce, combine 2 eggs and icing sugar.
  • Step 12
    Melt butter in a double broiler, whisk in egg mixture and cook, stirring constantly, until sugar has melted and sauce has thickened slightly.
  • Step 13
    Allow to cool, and add bourbon.
  • Step 14
    Serve over bread pudding.
