This is one of our favorite deserts. You can make this taste like Banana Foster by adding a teaspoon of rum to the sauce recipe.

Ingredients

  • 4 c
    cubed day-old french or sourdough bread ( 1-inch pieces )
  • 1/4 c
    butter or margarine, melted
  • 3 large
    eggs
  • 2 c
    milk
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 2 tsp
    pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    sliced firm bananas (1/4-inch pieces)
  • SAUCE:

  • 3 Tbsp
    butter or margarine
  • 2 Tbsp
    sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    cornstarch
  • 3/4 c
    light corn syrup
  • 1 tsp
    pure vanilla extract

How to Make Banana Bread Pudding

Step-by-Step

  1. Place the bread cubes in a greased 2-qt. casserole; pour melted butter over and toss to coat
  2. In a medium bowl, lightly beat eggs, milk,sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
  3. Stir in bananas
  4. Pour over bread cubes and stir to coat.
  5. Bake uncovered at 375 for 40 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Remove from oven and set aside
  6. Meanwhile, for sauce, melt butter in a small saucepan.
  7. Combine sugar and cornstarch; add to butter
  8. Stir in milk and corn syurp. Cook and stir over medium heat until the mixture comes to a full boil. Boil for 1 minute.
  9. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla.
  10. Serve warm sauce over warm pudding
