This is my exmother-in-laws recipe! She makes it to this day-everyone loves it. I have had this for at least 50 years.

Ingredients

  • 6 - eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups milk, scalded
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • - nutmeg, sprinkle on top

How To Make baked custard

  • Step 1
    Beat eggs slightly. Add sugar, milk, salt, and vanilla. Mix thoroughly. Pour into greased casserole dish and sprinkle nutmeg on top ~much as you like. Probably 1/2 to 1 teaspoon.
  • Step 2
    Place casserole in middle of pan leaving enough room on sides to add very hot or boiling water just halfway up on casserole dish.
  • Step 3
    When knife in center comes out only slightly coated, remove from pan and out of oven. Use appropriate pot holders. Let cool. Bake at 325 degrees F - 1 hour
