I found this in a cook book from 1898 that was my great grandmothers. The cook book does not have normal measurements. It says a knob of butter or a tea cup full of sugar or a handful. I love this recipe. It is so easy and comes out velvety and so good. You can sprinkle nutmeg on the top but it is not necessary.

Ingredients
- 8 - eggs
- 1 quart milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
How To Make baked custard

Step 1Beat eggs with sugar.

Step 2Stir in milk and add vanilla.

Step 3Pour into a greased 2 qt casserole.

Step 4Put the 2 qt casserole into a hot water bath.

Step 5Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 45 minutes until you put a knife 1/4 of the way in from the edge. The knife will come out clean.

Step 6Take out of the oven and cool.
