Ingredients

  • 1
    home made or store bought pie crust 9", unbaked
  • 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    allspice, ground
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon, ground
  • 1/2 tsp
    ginger, ground
  • 1 1/2 c
    pumpkin, canned or cooked
  • 2
    eggs, separated
  • 3/4 c
    canned milk
  • 3/4 c
    milk, whole

How to Make William Howard Taft's Pumpkin Pie

Step-by-Step

  1. Mix sugars, salt and spices. Add pumpkin. Add egg yolks and canned and whole milk. (Can add more amounts of spices, to taste if desired).
  2. Beat egg whites, not too stiff, and fold into pumpkin mixture. Pour into pie shell.
  3. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes, then turn down temperature to 350 degrees until done, approximately 30 to 40 minutes(depends on your oven). Test pie by when a knife comes out of filling clean.
  4. I like to top my pumpkin pie with cool whip or whipped cream, sometimes sprinkled with a little bit of pumpkin pie spice on top.
