This is a WW1/depression era recipe. The pie is very good and there is about nothing to it. Just a little of this and a little of that.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 - unbaked pie shell

How To Make vinegar pie

  • Step 1
    Cream butter and sugar. Add flour, spices, salt, egg, vinegar and water. Cook in top of double boiler until thick, stirring constantly. Heat oven to 350°F. Line 8-inch pie plate with pastry. Bake crust for 3 to 4 minutes. Pour hot filling into crust, and continue baking until crust is nicely browned. Cool thoroughly and serve plain or topped with a meringue or whipped cream topping.
