This was sent to me by the realtor that sold our house in Florida 10 years ago. She still sends a delicious recipe once a year. Always look forward to getting them.

Ingredients

  • TORTE
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1 - egg, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups apples, pealed and chopped
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
  • SAUCE
  • 1/2 cup whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons dark rum

How To Make the crafty gourmet's apple torte

  • Step 1
    TORTE: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter or spray 8" cake pan. Stir first four ingredients into medium bowl. Beat sugar and butter in large bowl. Add eggs and beat well. Stir in dry ingredients; add apples and nuts. Transfer to prepared pan. Bake 45 to 50 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature with or without ice cream and sauce. SAUCE: Combine first 4 ingredients in saucepan over medium heat. Stir until butter melts and sugars dissolve, increase heat and boil until slightly thickened, about 3 minutes. Mix in rum.
