"the best apple pie"

Family favorites, we all enjoy. This is my family's. Note: I make my own crusts but you can easily use the bought crusts as I did in the recipe. This filling also makes the best apple crisps or cobblers. I have also made this in a jelly roll pan and layered the apples 2 high for a great idea for a potluck.

Ingredients

  • PIE FILLING:
  • 1/4 C - sugar
  • 1/4 C - brn sugar
  • 2 TBS - flour
  • 1/2 tsp - cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp - nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp - salt
  • MIX AND SET ASIDE ALL ABOVE INGREDIENTS, IN SMALL BOWL.
  • 6 - 7 C - thinly sliced granny smith apples
  • 1/4 C - cream
  • 3 TBS - butter, (not margarine, please)
  • 1 Tbs - milk
  • 2 DEEP DISH PIE CRUSTS

How To Make "the best apple pie"

  • Step 1
    Mix sgr, flour, spices & salt in small bowl, set aside. Peel and Slice apples.
  • Step 2
    Spread apples in crust. Sprinkle with 1/3 flour mixture. REPEAT 3 times. (layer)
  • Step 3
    Pour Cream into the Center. Dot with Butter. Place 2nd crust on top of pie. Cut Slits in top crusts. Squeeze edges of crust together all around the crust.
  • Step 4
    Baste top of Crust with Milk, & sprinkle with sugar. Note: Ok to sub. Splenda for sugar.
  • Step 5
    BAKE: @ 400 degrees 1 hr. on cookie sheet on bottom rack. CHECK crust browning while baking. Cover edges with foil if browning to much. Let Cool before eating. Serve slightly warm, great with Ice cream or Caramel topping drizzled over the top. . . . ENJOY!
  • Step 6
    HINTS: you can add 1 C cranberries, or raisins to this pie for added flavors.
