swiss apple pie
This is a pie that makes its own crust. This was my first (and so far, only) pie, so I wanted to start with something simple. *I used Granny Smith apples. **I didn't have any walnuts, so I substituted cashews instead.

Ingredients
- 1 - egg
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup tart peeled apples*
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts**

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 F.

Step 2In a large bowl, combine egg, sugar and vanilla.

Step 3In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt; stir into egg mixture just until moistened; fold in apples and nuts.

Step 4Transfer to a greased 9-inch pie plate; bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
