How To Make southern style lattice top apple pie
-
Step 1For the best results you will want to draw some of the moisture out of the apples you do this by slicing them then placing them in a bowl with lemon juice and sugar sprinkled on them . This is a form of dehydration . Let them sit for 1-2 hours. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
-
Step 2Mix together flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
-
Step 3After 1 hour dehydrating theApples move them to a dry clean bowl and mix with dry ingredients.
-
Step 4Fill the pie crust with the apple mixture layering apples drizzle with lemon juice and top with butter I like to lay mine out like a pinwheel it just tastes better that way.
-
Step 5Cut the second pie crust into 1” strips and crosshatch on top of the pie with your fingers join the 2 crusts around the edge.
-
Step 6Brush top with egg wash and bake for 55-60 minutes allow to cool.
