I’ve been trying my hand at baking and here’s my second ever apple pie.

Ingredients For southern style lattice top apple pie

  • 3/4 c
    brown sugar
  • 1/4 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1 pinch
    nutmeg
  • 1 tsp
    lemon juice
  • 3 Tbsp
    butter cubed
  • 2
    frozen pie crusts
  • 1
    egg wash for crust

How To Make southern style lattice top apple pie

    For the best results you will want to draw some of the moisture out of the apples you do this by slicing them then placing them in a bowl with lemon juice and sugar sprinkled on them . This is a form of dehydration . Let them sit for 1-2 hours. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

    Mix together flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.

    After 1 hour dehydrating theApples move them to a dry clean bowl and mix with dry ingredients.

    Fill the pie crust with the apple mixture layering apples drizzle with lemon juice and top with butter I like to lay mine out like a pinwheel it just tastes better that way.

    Cut the second pie crust into 1” strips and crosshatch on top of the pie with your fingers join the 2 crusts around the edge.

    Brush top with egg wash and bake for 55-60 minutes allow to cool.
