I recently obtained some Goodhousekeeping recipe books from 1958. I am enjoying them tremendously! This is a recipe that is worth sharing. Hope you enjoy it too.

Ingredients

  • 1 - baked 8" pie shell
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 2 - egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3 or 4 - ripe bananas
  • - enough lemon juice to brush bananas
  • - whipped cream

How To Make so easy banana-caramel pie

  • Step 1
    In saucepan, mix cold water and egg yolks. Combine sugars, flour, and salt; stir into yolk mixture. Gradually add boiling water, stirring briskly. Cook, stirring, 3 to 5 minutes til smooth and thick.
  • Step 2
    Add butter and vanilla; cool 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Pour into baked pie shell. Refrigerate several hours.
  • Step 3
    Serve: Slice bananas and brush with lemon juice. Arrange over pie filling. Spread whipped cream over all.
