My mom made these wonderful pies every year around the holidays.We always looked forward to this time of year,for all the great food mom made and these pies were a favorite.

Ingredients

2 lb
ground pork
1 medium
onions, yellow, medium(chopped)
1 c
instant potato flakes, dry
3 or 4 Tbsp
alspice
salt and pepper(to taste)

9inch crusts

How to Make Pork Pie (canadian)

Step-by-Step

  • 1break up the ground pork,put in dutch oven. add just enough water to cover meat.add onions,salt and pepper.bring to boil add alspice.let simmer 1 hour.meat should look grainy.pour off half of the juice from the meat.add instant potatoes stir until well mixed.set aside.
  • 2pre- bake the two bottom crusts in two pie pans.be sure to poke with a fork to asure no bubbles.bake until lightly browned.remove from oven add meat mixture to crusts.cover with un baked crusts.make slits in top crusts so steam can escape.brush with egg wash.
  • 3bake in 350 degree oven for 30 to 40 min.remove from oven let cool for 30 min.slice and enjoy.very good with gravy over it, served with tossed salad.
