This is a family recipe that has been handed down 3 generations now. It's "secret ingredient" keeps everyone guessing. I won a Red Ribbon (second place premium) at the Manatee County Fair a few years back with this recipe. Bound to be a winner with your family too!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup grape nuts cereal (the original, not the flakes)
  • 3 - eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup dark karo syrup
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1 - pie crust shell

How To Make pecan pie

  • Step 1
    Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • Step 2
    In a small bowl, mix together the hot water, butter and grape nuts. Set aside 5 minutes to soak.
  • Step 3
    In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, karo syrup, sugar, vanilla and salt until well blended.
  • Step 4
    Add the grape nuts mixture to the second mix and stir well.
  • Step 5
    Add the chopped pecans and stir well.
  • Step 6
    Pour into the pie shell and bake on the center rack for approximately 1 hour or until the center of your pie is firm.
  • Step 7
    NOTE: To make a fancier looking pie, you can add whole pecans to the top in a pattern before you bake.
