This is a family recipe that has been handed down 3 generations now. It's "secret ingredient" keeps everyone guessing. I won a Red Ribbon (second place premium) at the Manatee County Fair a few years back with this recipe. Bound to be a winner with your family too!

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup grape nuts cereal (the original, not the flakes)
- 3 - eggs, beaten
- 1 cup dark karo syrup
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 pinch salt
- 1/2 cup pecans, chopped
- 1 - pie crust shell
How To Make pecan pie

Step 1Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2In a small bowl, mix together the hot water, butter and grape nuts. Set aside 5 minutes to soak.

Step 3In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, karo syrup, sugar, vanilla and salt until well blended.

Step 4Add the grape nuts mixture to the second mix and stir well.

Step 5Add the chopped pecans and stir well.

Step 6Pour into the pie shell and bake on the center rack for approximately 1 hour or until the center of your pie is firm.

Step 7NOTE: To make a fancier looking pie, you can add whole pecans to the top in a pattern before you bake.
