I got this recipe in the late 70's when my mom and I collected free recipe leaflets from the produce section of Fred Meyer stores in the Northwest - FM was the original "Supercenter", years before folks in Washington and Oregon ever heard of Wal-Mart. This is my favorite recipe in the whole collection, although I haven't made it for 20 years until yesterday because it's so rare to get paper bags at the grocery store anymore.

How to Make Paper Bag Apple Pie

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven t0 425.
  2. Place pastry in pie plate.
  3. Arrange apples inside pastry.
  4. In small bowl, combine all other ingredients and mix well. Sprinkle over apples.
  5. Slide pie into large brown paper bag. Fold over twice and secure with paper clips.
  6. Place on baking sheet and bake for 1 hour.
  7. Remove from oven and allow paper clips to cool before removing pie from bag, which will appear burnt (this is normal - the pie will be fine!). Use caution when opening bag, there may be hot juices on the paper.
