What a strong memory this pie brings back of all that wonderful childhood comfort food! You can still find this in some restaurants, such as MCL Cafeteria, but none quite as good as Mother used to make!

-
Step 3Pour into unbaked pastry shell. Sprinkle with nutmeg.
-
Step 4Bake on center rack in 350-degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until knife inserted near center of pie comes out clean.
-
Step 5Cool pie on wire rack; then chill.
-
Step 6NOTE: An alternative topping: instead of nutmeg, sprinkle with 1/2 cup flaked coconut.
