  • 2 Tbsp
    flour or cornstarch
  • 2 Tbsp
    cocoa, unsweetened
  • 2 c
  • 3
    eggs, separated, save whites for meringue
  • 1 Tbsp
  • dash
  • 1 Tbsp
    vanilla extract
  • ·
    the following is for the meringue
  • 1/8 tsp
    salt for meringue
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp
    cream of tartar
  • 6 Tbsp
  • 2 1/2 Tbsp
  • 1
    pie shell, baked

How to Make Old Fashion Chocolate Pie


  1. Mix first 5 ingredients, cook, stirring constantly until thick. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
  2. Add butter, salt and vanilla. Mix well.
  3. Pour into baked pie shell, top with meringue and bake until golden brown, don't leave unattended, this step only takes a couple of minutes.
  4. Meringue
  5. Add cold water to egg whites, beat until frothy.
  6. Add salt, cream of tartar and vanilla. Beat until stiff.
  7. Beat 6 tablespoons sugar, one at a time , continue beating until peaks form. Spread over pie, making sure to touch edges of crust with meringue. Bake until brown at 300 degree oven.
