Pecan pie is fabulous just plain and simple. But this version, with a cream cheese layer on the bottom, is just over the top! From chefmeow in Garland, Texas. A fine use of Texas pecans!

Ingredients For new and improved pecan pie

  • TOPPING LAYER:
  • 3
    eggs
  • 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 1 c
    light corn syrup
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • CREAM CHEESE LAYER:
  • 8 oz
    cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 c
    sugar
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1
    egg
  • 1
    unbaked deep dish pie shell
  • 1 1/4 c
    pecans

How To Make new and improved pecan pie

    Preheat oven to 350 F
  • 2
    Combine eggs, sugar, corn syrup and vanilla in a medium bowl then set this topping aside. This will be the top layer.

    In a separate medium bowl, combine cream cheese, sugar, salt, vanilla and egg until smooth. Pour the cream cheese mixture into the pie shell and smooth the top.

    Sprinkle the pecans evenly over the cream cheese mixture.

    Pour topping from Step 2 over the pecans and bake for 45 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature
