This is the basic recipe my mom used for all her pies and tarts. Also a great meat pie base!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 stick
    butter, unsalted
  • 3 c
    ap flour
  • 1 tsp
    salt, kosher
  • 1 Tbsp
    sugar
  • 1/3 c
    very cold vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 c
    ice cold water

How to Make Moms Simple Pie Crust

Step-by-Step

  1. Dice Butter and return to the fridge- butter needs to be cold. Place Flour, sugar and salt into food processor and pulse 3 times. Add the shortening and butter to this mixture. Pulse again about 15 times, or until the mix is crumbly.
  2. While the processor is running on pulse, add ice water a little at a time, until the dough begins to form a ball.
  3. Once you have a ball, remove from processor onto a lightly floured surface and cut in half. This is enough for two pie crusts, or 24 pie tarts.
