This is a pie to make when you don't have apples but you have everything else. It is actually pretty good. You can also make it in a bar pan to make slices, just drizzle a little icing over the top. This is a very old recipe of my great grandmother Sullivan who had 15 children... She knew how to feed them and keep them happy... Explore... And Play With Your Food! XO

Ingredients

  • 1 can (16-ounces) applesauce
  • 1 - sleeve of crackers broken up
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon, ground
  • 1 large lemon (juice and zest)
  • 1/3 cup water

How To Make mock apple pie

  • Step 1
    Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  • Step 2
    Pour the apple mixture into an unbaked pie shell. Dot the top with butter (about a half a stick). Put a top crust on. Make slits in top for steam to escape.
  • Step 3
    Bake in preheated 400 degree oven for 35 minutes. Or until bubbly and golden brown. Be watchful so it doesn't burn.
