Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 4 - egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 2 1/4 cups boiling water
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 - egg whites, room temperature
  • pinch salt
  • 3/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon sugar
  • - 9" pie crust, prepared

How To Make lemon pie for leslie, grandma w's

  • Step 1
    To sugar, add cornstarch dissolved in water. Add slightly beaten egg yolks, lemon juice and boiling water. Mix well and bring to a boil, then simmer 4 min and add butter. Keep warm while preparing meringue. Beat egg whites, add salt, 1/2 t vanilla and cream of tartar. When soft peaks form add sugar a little at a time. Pour warm filling into cooled crust, put meringue along edge of crust and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 400 degrees until evenly browned.
