  • 1/4 c

    egg yolks
  • 1/2 c
    lemon juice
  • 2 1/4 c
    boiling water
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
  • 4
    egg whites, room temperature
  • pinch
  • 3/8 tsp
    cream of tartar
  • 1/3 c
  • 3/4 tsp
  • ·
    9" pie crust, prepared

How to Make Lemon Pie for Leslie, Grandma W's


  1. To sugar, add cornstarch dissolved in water. Add slightly beaten egg yolks, lemon juice and boiling water. Mix well and bring to a boil, then simmer 4 min and add butter. Keep warm while preparing meringue. Beat egg whites, add salt, 1/2 t vanilla and cream of tartar. When soft peaks form add sugar a little at a time. Pour warm filling into cooled crust, put meringue along edge of crust and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 400 degrees until evenly browned.
