My grandchildren just love making these little hand pies! They love eating them too! We cook and bake together daily. They are all becoming wonderful little cooks... while we are creating wonderful little memories... just like my grandmother and I made together. If you don't have a hand pie press or a pierogi dumpling press, you can still make this by pressing the edges together. This is a great recipe for kids to help with because it is so easy to do and tastes so good... and they really feel like they have created something wonderful! Play With Your Food! ox

Ingredients For hand pies !

  • 2 box
    refrigerated pie crusts (or made from scratch)
  • 1 can
    apple pie filling
  • 1 can
    cherry pie filling
  • 1/2 c
    sugar (granulated or powdered)
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    ground cinnamon

How To Make hand pies !

  • cinnamon and sugar in a bowl
    Mix the sugar and cinnamon together in a bowl.
  • Rectangular hand pie press with pie crust dough
    Remove pie crust from box (or if making your own, roll it out). Cut the dough into the size and shape of your hand pie press.

    Place two pieces of dough onto the hand pie press.

    Dampen the edge of the dough on the press (this helps secure the seal).
  • Hand pie press with dough and cherry filling
    Put pie filling in center of press.
  • Three filled hand pies on parchment paper
    Flip one side over onto the other side. Press down to seal.

    Place hand pie onto parchment paper lined baking sheet.
  • 3 hand pies with cinnamon sugar
    Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  • Hand pie press, two filled hand pies with sugar on top
    Repeat until all are ready to bake.
  • 5 baked hand pies with cinnamon sugar
    Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes, or golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool.
