    deep dish pie crust
  • 30 oz can(s)
    pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix)
  • 6
    large eggs (can substitute 4 whole eggs and 3 egg whites)
  • 6 Tbsp
    butter (no substitution)
  • 6 Tbsp
  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar (can substitute splenda)
  • 2 tsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground nutmeg

How to Make Grandmother Van Horn's Pumpkin Pie


  1. Place pumpkin, butter, sugar and spices in a high-walled pot or skillet. Cook until heated through, stirring occasionally.
  2. Remove pumpkin to a large mixing bowl. Mix in the beaten eggs and flour until smooth.
  3. While still hot, pour into a deep-dish pie plate lined with a flour crust.
  4. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 70 minutes.
  5. Remove from oven to wire rack. Cool completely.
