I made up this for my daughter Flora who lives for chocolate chip cookies, and doesn't particularly like other pies on Thanksgiving, where that is everyone else in my family's first choice. Flora AND everyone else are CRAZY about it.

  • 1 - unbaked pie shell, homemade is best
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons real vanilla extract, i use mexican vanilla or madagascar bourbon
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 cup real semi-sweet chocolate chips (not just chocolate flavored chips)
  • 1 cup walnuts, finely or coarsely chopped (your preference) optional

How To Make flora's very favorite chocolate chip pie

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Prepare pie crust and do not prick. Refrigerate, covered and unbaked while preparing filling.
  • Step 2
In a large bowl, beat eggs and vanilla extract until foamy. Add flour, sugar and brown sugar; beat for 4 minutes, with an electric beater on low speed. Slowly pour in the cooled butter, beating until well-blended. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts.
  • Step 3
Pour into unbaked pie shell. Bake for 1 hour, or when knife inserted in center of pie comes out clean. Cool on wire rack. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, or unsweetened whipped cream, if desired. Yield: 8 servings.
