How to Make Dutch Apple Pie
- In a large saucepan heat 3/4 c. of the sugar with the water and vinegar.
Add apples and simmer until al dente tender.
Then remove the apples and set aside ;reserving the sauce. Mix the remaining sugar with the cornsstarch,
cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Add this mixture slowly to the syrup and cook until thickened . Remove from heat and add the butter and vanilla. - CRUST
Combine flour, salt into a bowl. Take out 1/4 c. flour and blend with the ice water to form a paste. Cut the Crisco into the remaining flour till the pieces are the size of small peas. Add flour paste to the Crisco-flour mixture. Mix thoroughly until the dough comes together and can be shaped into a ball. Roll crust out to about 1/8 thick.
Note
When rolling dough -roll from center out on a flour dusted surface..With this crust don't be afraid to reroll if it breaks or tear. Place in pie pan and crimp the edge..Fill with apples then pour the hot syrup mixture over the apples. Sprinkle the topping evenly over all.
Bake in hot oven for 8 minutes at 375 ^ ; then turn oven to 350^for about 35 minutes ,unti topping is golden and filling is bubbly.
