9x12 or smaller baking pan (depends on how deep you want it)
1 can(s)
crushed pineapple (not drained)
1 can(s)
cherry pie filling (or other fruit flavor)
1 box
yellow cake mix
1 1/2 stick
chopped nuts (as desired)

How to Make Dump Cake

  • 1Evenly spread all of the crushed pineapple in the pan.
  • 2Evenly spread the cherry pie filling on top of the pineapple. I used a rubber spatula to scoop some from the can and then spread.
  • 3Put cake mix in a bowl.
  • 4Melt 1/2 stick of butter and mix with cake mix until it gets crumbly.
  • 5Cut 1 stick of butter into slices. I used cold butter and sliced with a butter slicer I got years ago from a catalog.
Place butter slices evenly on top of the crumbled cake mix.
  • 6Sprinkle nuts on top (optional).
  • 7Bake at 350 degrees on middle rack for 30-35 minutes or until top is golden brown. Check at 25 minutes first time to be sure of the timing for your oven.
  • 8Let cool for 1 hour.
Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.
