Another fabulous idea from Pat, Sauerkraut Pie. When I heard about this, I ran with it and made this recipe.

Ingredients

  • FILLING

  • 1 can(s)
    sauerkraut, rinsed thoroughly
  • 1 c
    shredded coconut
  • 1 c
    half and half
  • 3
    eggs
  • 1 1/2 c
    dark brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    vanillla
  • 1 tsp
    almond extract
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    special dark cocoa powder
  • 1 c
    dark chocolate chips
  • 2 Tbsp
    cornstarch
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
    allspice, ground
  • TOPPING

  • 2 Tbsp
    demerara sugar
  • ·
    holiday sprinkles, optional
  • CRUST

  • 1
    cinnamon coconut pie crust

How to Make Chocolate Sauerkraut Dessert Pie

Step-by-Step

  1. Mix all filling ingredients in a mixing bowl, mixing completely. Set aside.
  2. Prepare pie crust. If making heavily exposed pie crust, use a pie ring or cover entire pie with tin foil for half of the cooking time.

    Use this recipe:
    Cinnamon Coconut Pie Crust
  3. Pour in filling. Sprinkle toppings.
  4. Place in oven at 350F for 30-40 minutes, or until the center is set.
  5. Refrigerate for 3 hours-overnight.
