My son Jon loves this pie, He used to say, less sweet, more chocolate. I think I finally got it right.

  • 1 c
  • 1/4 c
    plus2 tbsp. corn starch
  • 1/8 tsp
  • 3
    egg yolks, beaten
  • 3 c
    half and half
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 3 oz
    chocolate, unsweetened squares
  • 3 oz
    bittersweet chocolate
  • 1
    baked 9
  • 1 c
    whipping chream
  • 1/8-1/4 c
  • ·
    cocoa or shaved chokolate

How to Make Chocolate Cream Pie


  1. Combine the first 3 ingredients in a heavy saucepan; Stir well.
  2. Combine the egg yolks and half and half; gradually stir into the sugar mixture.Add the chocolate. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and comes to a boil.Boil 3 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla. Immediately pour into the pie shell. Cover with plastic wrap and chill 30 minutes or until firm.
  4. Beat the whipping cream with a little sugar until firm peaks form. Spread over pie when it is completely cool. Dust with a little cocoa or shaved chocolate.
