My son Jon loves this pie, He used to say, less sweet, more chocolate. I think I finally got it right.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup plus2 tbsp. corn starch
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3 - egg yolks, beaten
  • 3 cups half and half
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 ounces chocolate, unsweetened squares
  • 3 ounces bittersweet chocolate
  • 1 - baked 9
  • 1 cup whipping chream
  • 1/8-1/4 cup sugar
  • - cocoa or shaved chokolate

How To Make chocolate cream pie

  • Step 1
    Combine the first 3 ingredients in a heavy saucepan; Stir well.
  • Step 2
    Combine the egg yolks and half and half; gradually stir into the sugar mixture.Add the chocolate. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and comes to a boil.Boil 3 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla. Immediately pour into the pie shell. Cover with plastic wrap and chill 30 minutes or until firm.
  • Step 4
    Beat the whipping cream with a little sugar until firm peaks form. Spread over pie when it is completely cool. Dust with a little cocoa or shaved chocolate.
