cherry turnovers...... "snow on the mountain"
After baking a double batch of Gail Herbest's moon shaped recipe.. "Pie in the sky tarts." (I used apple pie filling.) Be warned.....They were so good ..they disappeared overnight! You can see my pictures on her site. Today I had to make more...so this is my revised triangle recipe...with cherry pie filling. They can be frozen individually... if they last that long!

Ingredients
- - crisco pie dough:
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 6-7 tablespoons water
- 3/4 cup yellow..butter flavor crisco
- - filling:
- 1 can cherry pie filling
- 1 - egg yolk whipped
How To Make cherry turnovers...... "snow on the mountain"

Step 1Mix flour and salt, add crisco, add cold water. Mix till it is very crumbly.

Step 2Pat out to form a disc 3/4 inch deep. Wrap in saran and chill a couple hours, or over night. When you are ready roll out the dough as thin as workable, then cut into 5 inch squares. Brush beaten egg yolk with a couple drops of wares and brush on the top of triangles. Put on your baking sheet. Add 1 teaspoon of cherries to the center of the square. Brush some water along two sides of the square. Turn 1/2 of square over to form a triangle. Press and seal to the water edges with a fork.

Step 3Bake in a 400 degree oven 12-15 minutes. Remove to a rack to cool. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
