Another recipe from my mom - I would often ask for this instead of a cake for my birthday when I was growing up.

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 - egg yolks, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup whipping cream
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 - baked 9 inch pie shell
  • 1 can cherry pie filling

How To Make cherry creme pie

  • Step 1
    In saucepan combine sugar, flour, cornstarch and salt. Gradually add milk and mix until smooth. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Cook over medium heat until very thick.
  • Step 2
    Blend a little of the hot mixture into the slightly beaten egg yolks and add to the rest of the hot mixture. Cook 2 minutes longer, stirring constantly. Cover and chill.
  • Step 3
    Beat whipping cream. Add vanilla to chilled mixture and beat until smooth. Fold in whipped cream.
  • Step 4
    Put whipped filling in pie shell and cover with cherry pie filling. Garnish with whipped cream if desired. Keep refrigerated.
