Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup cornstarch
- 4 - egg yolks, reserve whites
- 2/3 cup evaporated milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup milk
- 9 - pie shell, baked
- 4 - egg whites
- 2 tablespoons sugar
How To Make caramel pie

Step 1Combine 3/4 cup sugar, brown sugar and cornstarch.

Step 2Beat egg yolks.

Step 3Add evaporated milk and vanilla. Mix well.

Step 4Stir into sugar mixture. Set aside.

Step 5Put another 3/4 cup sugar into a heavy skillet.

Step 6Over medium heat, stir constantly until sugar melts and cooks to a golden brown.

Step 7Add butter and milk. Stir until butter melts.

Step 8Still cooking over medium heat, slowly pour in sugar mixture and cook until thickened.

Step 9Pour into a baked pie shell.

Step 10To make meringue, whip the egg whites with sugar.

Step 11Top the pie with the meringue. Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes. Watch carefully so a not to burn.
