This is a traditional side on the Thanksgiving table for my family; no recipe collection is complete without it.

  • 6 medium
  • 3 Tbsp
  • 1 c
    syrup or molasses
  • ·
    marshmallows (optional)
  • 2 c
    chopped nuts, toasted (optional)

How to Make Candied Yams


  1. Boil yams, DO NOT BREAK THE SKIN! Then peel and cut into quarters or cubes.
  2. Place yams in shallow, buttered pan (13x9"). Pour syrup/molasses over yams, add nuts if desired and dot with butter.
  3. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
  4. If using marshmallows: pull out of oven after about 20 minutes and add marshmallows, then replace in oven for 5 to 10 minutes more, or until marshmallows are golden around their edges.
