Grandma W made this for Grandpa, it was his favorite. She made it with meringue for him, but I prefer cool whip, as she did if bringing this pie to a family reunion for him!

Ingredients
- 1 cup minus 1 t brown sugar
- 1/3 cup butter
- 3 - egg yolks
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups scalded milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1 - 9" pie crust, baked
- - meringue or cool whip

Step 1Combine sugar and butter in a pan, cook over low heat until blended. Beat yolks, flour and salt together until smooth, then add milk. Add to sugar mixture and cook, stirring constantly, until thick. Reduce heat and cook 10 additional minutes. Cool. Add vanilla and put in (baked) pie shell. Top with meringue or cool whip.
