Ingredients

  • PIE
  • 4 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 9-inch pie crust, unbaked
  • TOPPING
  • 6 ounces package butterscotch morsells
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • whipped cream, optional

How To Make butterscotch crumb apple pie

  • Step 1
    Pie: Combine the apple slices and lemon juice in a medium bowl; toss well.
  • Step 2
    Combine the sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt; stir well. Add the sugar mixture to the apples. Stir gently to combine.
  • Step 3
    Place the pie crust in a 9 inch pie pan. Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust. Cover the edges of the pie crust with foil or use a pie crust shield. Bake at 375 degrees F for 20 minutes. Remove the foil or pie crust shield. Sprinkle the topping over the apple mixture; bake an additional 25 minutes. Serve with whipped cream if desired.

    Topping: Combine the butterscotch morsels and the butter in the top of a double boiler. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cook until the morsels and butter melt, stirring occasionally.
  • Step 5
    Remove from the heat. Add the flour and salt, stirring well. Let stand for 10 minutes or until crumbly.
