Ingredients
- PIE
- 4 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 9-inch pie crust, unbaked
- TOPPING
- 6 ounces package butterscotch morsells
- 1/4 cup butter
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- whipped cream, optional
How To Make butterscotch crumb apple pie

Step 1Pie: Combine the apple slices and lemon juice in a medium bowl; toss well.

Step 2Combine the sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt; stir well. Add the sugar mixture to the apples. Stir gently to combine.

Step 3Place the pie crust in a 9 inch pie pan. Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust. Cover the edges of the pie crust with foil or use a pie crust shield. Bake at 375 degrees F for 20 minutes. Remove the foil or pie crust shield. Sprinkle the topping over the apple mixture; bake an additional 25 minutes. Serve with whipped cream if desired.

Step 4Topping: Combine the butterscotch morsels and the butter in the top of a double boiler. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cook until the morsels and butter melt, stirring occasionally.

Step 5Remove from the heat. Add the flour and salt, stirring well. Let stand for 10 minutes or until crumbly.
