microwave apple pie with buttermilk crust

After this pie crust is made, use it to assemble a complete pie. Then the entire pie is partially cooked in the microwave for 9 minutes and only goes into the oven for 10 minutes or until the crust is nicely browned. Florence Mokine Rudh gave me this recipe 1-14-94.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup crisco
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1 tablespoon margarine
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • APPLE FILLING
  • 6-7 cups sliced apples
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1-2 teaspoon cinnamon

How To Make microwave apple pie with buttermilk crust

  • Step 1
    Cut together or use food processor the first 5 ingredients.
  • Step 2
    Using a fork, mix together the oil and buttermilk.
  • Step 3
    Add buttermilk mixture to the above flour mixture and pulse until dough comes together.
  • Step 4
    Divide into 4 equal parts and roll out as desired.
  • Step 5
    For pie using Haralson apples use 1 cup sugar. Florence places her completely assembled pie into microwave oven on a turntable on full power for "exactly 9 minutes" or "until insided is bubbly".
  • Step 6
    Then place in a 425 degree oven for 10 minutes or until crust is nicely browned.
