This is a Southern favorite. It is a custard pie. There are many variations of this pie and most are very good. This is my family favorite. I use my own pie crust recipe as I don't like store bought.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 - eggs
  • 8 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

How To Make buttermilk pie

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Step 2
    Mix sugar and flour together. Beat eggs well and add to dry mix. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Add butter and buttermilk and mix on high for 2 minutes. Add lemon juice and vanilla extract.
  • Step 4
    Pour mixture into unbaked pie crust. Bake until golden, 55 minutes to 1 hour. Pie will look jiggly when removed. But, will firm as it cools.
