My old friend Tia's mother made these and was kind enough to share her recipe with me. She is from Canada and I believe them to be the canadian version of pecan tarts.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pound butter or lard (i like the buttery taste)
  • 1 - egg
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • FILLING
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 - eggs
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup

How To Make butter tarts

  • Step 1
    Cut butter into flour until crumbly. Put 1 egg, vinegar in a 1 cup measuring cup and fill to 1 cup with warer. Pour mixture into flour mixture and mix into dough. Roll out dough to 1/4 inch thick and cut into 4 inch circles. Place in cupcake tins.
  • Step 2
    Mix all the ingredients for the filling plus 1/2 cup raisins and 1/2 cup finely crushed walnuts. Pour into pie shells.
  • Step 3
    Bake at 375 until brown. Let cool and remove from tins.
