My old friend Tia's mother made these and was kind enough to share her recipe with me. She is from Canada and I believe them to be the canadian version of pecan tarts.

Ingredients

  • 6 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 lb
    butter or lard (i like the buttery taste)
  • 1
    egg
  • 1 Tbsp
    vinegar
  • FILLING

  • 2 c
    brown sugar
  • 2
    eggs
  • 2 Tbsp
    vinegar
  • 1/2 c
    melted butter
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 2 Tbsp
    maple syrup

How to Make Butter Tarts

Step-by-Step

  1. Cut butter into flour until crumbly. Put 1 egg, vinegar in a 1 cup measuring cup and fill to 1 cup with warer. Pour mixture into flour mixture and mix into dough. Roll out dough to 1/4 inch thick and cut into 4 inch circles. Place in cupcake tins.
  2. Mix all the ingredients for the filling plus 1/2 cup raisins and 1/2 cup finely crushed walnuts. Pour into pie shells.
  3. Bake at 375 until brown. Let cool and remove from tins.
