My old friend Tia's mother made these and was kind enough to share her recipe with me. She is from Canada and I believe them to be the canadian version of pecan tarts.

Ingredients

Add to Grocery List

6 c
flour
1 tsp
salt
1 lb
butter or lard (i like the buttery taste)
1
egg
1 Tbsp
vinegar

FILLING

2 c
brown sugar
2
eggs
2 Tbsp
vinegar
1/2 c
melted butter
1 tsp
vanilla
2 Tbsp
maple syrup

How to Make Butter Tarts

Step-by-Step

  • 1Cut butter into flour until crumbly. Put 1 egg, vinegar in a 1 cup measuring cup and fill to 1 cup with warer. Pour mixture into flour mixture and mix into dough. Roll out dough to 1/4 inch thick and cut into 4 inch circles. Place in cupcake tins.
  • 2Mix all the ingredients for the filling plus 1/2 cup raisins and 1/2 cup finely crushed walnuts. Pour into pie shells.
  • 3Bake at 375 until brown. Let cool and remove from tins.
