Ingredients

    eggs, separated
  • 1 c
    granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • 3/4 c
    confectioners' sugar
  • 3 Tbsp
    milk
  • 1 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 c
    sliced almonds
  • 2 Tbsp
    granulated sugar
  • 2 c
    any ready to serve vanilla pudding
  • ·
    if your using a self rising flour omit baking powder and salt

How to Make Blitz Torte

Step-by-Step

  1. Heat oven to 325 degrees.Grease and flour to 8 in layer pans.Beat egg whites until foamy. Beat in 1 cup of granulated sugar. 1 tsp at a time,continue beating until stiff and glossy. DO NOT underbeat. Set aside.
  2. Measure shortening, 3/4 c.confectioner's sugar, egg yolks, and milk into a large mixer bowl. Blend 1/2 minute on low, scraping constantly. Add flour, baking powder and salt; beat 1 minute on medium, scraping bowl occassionaly, Spread in pans.
  3. Spread 1/2 the meringue on batter in each pan; sprinkle each with 1/2 the almonds, then with 1 tablespoon granulated sugar.
  4. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until the meringue is set. Let cool.
  5. With Spatula, carefully remove layers from pans. Fill layers, meringue side up, with pudding. Chill for at least 1 hour.
