This was originally a Betty Crocker Recipe...This cake is the Bomb.

Ingredients

  • 4 - eggs, separated
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 cups any ready to serve vanilla pudding
  • - if your using a self rising flour omit baking powder and salt

How To Make blitz torte

  • Step 1
    Heat oven to 325 degrees.Grease and flour to 8 in layer pans.Beat egg whites until foamy. Beat in 1 cup of granulated sugar. 1 tsp at a time,continue beating until stiff and glossy. DO NOT underbeat. Set aside.
  • Step 2
    Measure shortening, 3/4 c.confectioner's sugar, egg yolks, and milk into a large mixer bowl. Blend 1/2 minute on low, scraping constantly. Add flour, baking powder and salt; beat 1 minute on medium, scraping bowl occassionaly, Spread in pans.
  • Step 3
    Spread 1/2 the meringue on batter in each pan; sprinkle each with 1/2 the almonds, then with 1 tablespoon granulated sugar.
  • Step 4
    Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until the meringue is set. Let cool.
  • Step 5
    With Spatula, carefully remove layers from pans. Fill layers, meringue side up, with pudding. Chill for at least 1 hour.
