I adopted a plain green apple pie from this site, added my own special touches and spices and came up with this, I used Maine wild blueberries that are prevalent this time of year they are small so if you use regular blueberries you may want to use only one cup.Also if the type of apples that you choose are known for being juicy add a little extra flour.

Ingredients

  • 4-5 cups granny smith apples, about 5-6 med apples
  • 2 cups maine wild blueberries
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3-4 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon mace
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried orange peel
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 2 - refrigerated pie crusts

How To Make blapple pie

  • Step 1
    Heat oven to 350.
  • Step 2
    Place one crust inside pie pan.
  • Step 3
    Core and peel apples. In large bowl toss apples and berries together
  • Step 4
    Mix sugars,flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, mace and orange peel together,add to apples and berries, add one Tbsp of vanilla and toss gently
  • Step 5
    Place in pastry lined pie pan.
  • Step 6
    Dot with butter.
  • Step 7
    Cover with top crust.
  • Step 8
    Seal and make slits in top.
  • Step 9
    I brush mine with 1 egg mixed with 1 Tbsp of water and sprinkle with sugar before baking
  • Step 10
    To keep edges from becoming to brown cover with a 1 1/2 inch strip of aluminum foil.
  • Step 11
    Bake 50-60 minutes, or until crust is browned.
  • Step 12
    Serve warm or cold.
  • Step 13
    Top with ice cream.
