blapple pie
I adopted a plain green apple pie from this site, added my own special touches and spices, and came up with this. I used Maine wild blueberries that are prevalent this time of year. They are small, so if you use regular blueberries, you may want to use only one cup. Also, if the type of apples that you choose is known for being juicy, add a little extra flour.
Blue Ribbon Recipe
Three cheers for creativity! Blueberries and tart Granny Smith apples make sweet music together in this clever apple pie. The blend of spices adds warm flavor to the filling and will fill your house with an amazing aroma. With a buttery, flaky, crispy crust, top a slice with your favorite vanilla ice cream for a delicious piece of pie. Red, white, and blue, this pie would make a festive 4th of July dessert, along with being great as part of a holiday spread.

How To Make blapple pie
-
Step 1Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
-
Step 2Place one crust inside pie pan.
-
Step 3Core, peel, and slice apples. In a large bowl, toss apples and blueberries together.
-
Step 4Mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, mace, and orange zest. Add it to apples and berries. Add 1 Tbsp of vanilla and toss gently.
-
Step 5Place in pastry lined pie pan.
-
Step 6Dot with butter.
-
Step 7Cover with the top crust. Seal and make slits in the top. I brush mine with 1 egg mixed with 1 Tbsp of water and sprinkle with sugar before baking.
-
Step 8To keep edges from becoming too brown, cover with a 1 1/2 inch strip of aluminum foil or a pie crust shield.
-
Step 9Bake 50 - 60 minutes or until the crust is browned.
-
Step 10Serve warm or cold. Top with ice cream.
